A graphic design & 3D animation project, developing a versatile system for new instruction creation.
Develop a versatile way to explain Cordstrap’s cargo securing.
By creating a united system, 3D content drove the outputs for printed and animated instructions. These results gave two mediums, which together brought greater clarity to Cordstrap’s cargo securing and successfully enabled it’s customers to understand complex lashing application.

Since 2017, I have been designing and illustrating instructions to explain Cordstrap’s cargo securing to it’s customers. In 2019, after a trip to meet them about a new product launch, the team at MarkOps identified an opportunity; the basic 3D models used in official documents. We believed that if we were able to build on these models, we could move onto more versatile and animated work. Allowing us to do a better job at explaining how to effectively secure cargo.
Bringing this to life, was my challenge. By building on my understanding of Cordstrap’s products, I created multiple 3D assets, 3D animations and a robust system which tied animation and print together, accounting for all product configurations. The resulting output gave us two ways to effectively communicate lashing application.
I created animations and many 3D models from scratch, for different components and configurations used in the application process.
The design system I created for print accounted for all product configurations, across all systems.
Adapted from the print design system, the 3D animations I created used the printed instructions as a storyboard and a visual guide, ensuring consistency across all mediums.
Working on this project taught me a lot. It gave me the opportunity to expand my skills in 3D modelling and animation (which I’ve really enjoyed!) and it taught me how to integrate these skills with a scalable method of creation. Creating lots of work, with much less effort.
The results of creating of this system brought about an overhaul of Cordstrap’s Container Securing instructions, giving MarkOps the opportunity to have me to create new printed and animated instructions for all of Cordstrap’s existing products, a new product line and several new products.
